November 16, 2009

Well first i would like to say this saturday is transfer calls. Another 6 weeks gone. And tomorrow here in Japan is the 18th so im not 20 yet ha. Well if you can get some extra things in the next box that would be great. Pro Srength Old Spice With talc,Fatty sharpie and ultra fine sharpies, this one i dont need but the mission pres said it would be a good idea to learn some kind of easy instrument and to buy one here cheap or get one sent, so we can participate in ward activities more. So if you have any ideas of easy instuments to learn and cheap ones let me know or send something with stuff on how to learn it please.
Well i hope Breggie made it, she seems like she has improved alot from what i have heard. Dad is just old, put him in a home ha just kidding.
The investigator has been busy so we havent met with him to teach more since the last lesson. But he comes to church so thats good. He still has the date set for the 22 but its not gunna happen since we cant meet as often as we would like. HA yea companions, probably the most interesting part of the mission, ill just leave it at that. I havent been in a potugese ward. All wards here are either japanese or english depending on what area you are in. This ward might as well be portugese though since about half the members are from brazil.
Well the member that had me make the pinata, aske me to make like a breast plate armor thing like in one of the pictures for captain moroni. WHAT THE FREAK!?! ha he gave me cardboard and paint andd said ill be back in about 30 minutes. I made it, but i cant paint worth junk so he did that, it turned out good.
yea our ward mission leader in this ward is brazilian so our ward mission council or what ever it is, is all in portugese, so im left out of the loop a lot here, I kinda want to get transfered to someplace i can help more. and be involved with things more.
One good thing, well actually 2, that i think are the best things that have happened on my mission so far. We have been working with 2 LA. One a 19 yr old boy, who stopped reading and coming to church. The other an older man. The boy came to church like 3 weeks ago, and i have to sit with him anytime he comes, but i talked to him when we sang i held the hymn book in front of both of us but he wouldnt sing. For 2 or 3 weeks he would come in street clothes and do the same, but this last sunday he came in a suit, he took the hymn book from my hands and started singing, it was great. Then the older man, he hasnt been to church in at least a month, and we have been going once a week and sharing messages, and this last sunday he came. NOW i know what Jesus said about leaving the 90 and 9 and looking for the 1. And when you find the one you come back rejoicing.
Thats about all though,
Love you so much!

I dont think i was able to go to many of Kiras games at grosmont, cause of soccer, So i dont really remember.
Not much new is happening. The people ha, what people? We are doing our best to talk and get things done. This past week we were able to pass out about 4 or 5 BoM so that was good. The Language is kinda rough right now. It feel like when im with an american comp i do great and feel great about the language, cause they struggle like me ha. Kinda mean but true. But with my comp now, since he is part japanese and lived here for 4 years before the mission, just makes it seem like i dont improve and since he can talk faster and better its hard for me to stay up with the conversation and talk sometimes. The Bap date is still set, but it might have to move since we can only meet with the man saturday and sundays and he cant do it every weekend because he works.
For the next box or whenever you send something ,can you send black soccer socks as well please. it gets cold here and my calves have stretched out my church socks.
I said i was going to mail a drawing i did, last week BUT i never had a chance to. So hopefully today or tomorrow i will ba able to. Well i emailed you first, and i need to email breggie from last week. I havent fully recovered from getting sick, so im planning on sleeping a lot today.
Hope all is well, Love ya

November 1, 2009

Im not sure exactly why my comp gets down on himself. One reason maybe is that he is missing home bad, and he doesnt hesitate to tell people. For the Pinata, i made a pumpkin and a weird one that didnt turn out so i drew halloween stuff on it.
No halloween isnt celebrated here like in the States. There was mabye one small festival that i saw. No kids roaming the streets for candy.
There is no one in the town because its so country. The people that do live here know who we are and those that dont are gone from the city all day. We have been everywhere, in almost every town that we can get to to find people. I DO HAVE GOOD NEWS THOUGH. There is a brazilian couple, the wife is a recent convert, and the husband goes to church all the time. Well we made an appointment with the husband to teach him. Since it was in portugese, my comp wanted me to teach most of the lesson and he translate. I thought that was ridiculous, but i agreed. I prayed onn what to do, and after my prayer i told my comp we can get a bap date out of this lesson. THEN BAMM! Lesson 1, comp gave 1st vision i explained the rest and shared 2Nephi 22:2 with what my comp says is a powerful testimony. His date is for the 22nd. The last day of the transfer! First Bap date of the mission
Yea, we arent aloud to do things like that in Japan, the only thing we can do in front of shops or the train stations is pass out english class flyers.
You wanna hear a funny story. Friday was an all mission conference, and we HAD to get flew shots. Well sunday morning i woke up sick. Monday morning, stil sick. Went to a pharmacist to get medicine, and he told us that the shot made me sick. oh well. Still kinda sick but cant let that stop things.
Im goint to be sending a drawing home that i did. Ill send 2 copies. I want Dad to take one to Uncle Guy, Ill probably write a letter to go with it
K well i only got 30 minutes today since we went to the temple yesterday with the ward, so gotta go

Well i did think of a birthday present... Bible and Triple as small as they come please. My big quad is such a problem to carry when i need english sciptures. Yea i am kinda dissapointed about transferrs, no there is not more to do here. There is no people so it makes things so much harder then the last area.
Is going well with the new companion. Not very talkative and always gets down on himself if noone stops to talk to us, so i try and be funny and make him laugh. The weather is way crazy. Sunday was cold, yesterday frezzing wind and rain and today hot and sunny. BUT winter is coming, its getting clder and colder.
Yes Kiryu is surrounded by mountains, which makes it cold. I have seen all those resturants. Guess which is the only one i can afford as a missionary. MCDONALDS! gross, well he mac here isnt as bad as american mac. But for a meal at KFC is like $10 plus, then 2 scoops at 31 is at least $6. So yea ha. This area is no so good with investigators right now. Maybe we have 2 i think. My companion is from a town south of Seo Paulo the capital, dunno how to spell it. I live y 3 or 4 stations, so you cant find me here ha.
Well our Pinata experiment was a success. the kids couldnt break them so they had me get up and smash it open ha. But wow that was ridiculous, never thought id be doing a pinaa on the mission.
Well here is a good line of scrips i found during study alma 5:44-47

10/19/09

Well, i got the email in a letter last week ha thanks. Sorry i didnt have a chance to email last week, it was transfers so monday was a pday and i was on a train all day.
So yep i got transfered, i would love to tell you about the PIs but i dont know. MITO GOT WHITEWASHED! I got transfered up to Kiryu. So far ive been going along the outer ring of the mission. My companion is Elder Tsuchira ( 5th transfer, 5th comp) He is Brazilian and part japanese. This area has a large population of brazilian people so im homing to play more soccer here. But It was fun on sunday, i went to Gospel Principles in Portugese. I had my translater, but those people are amazing and so strong in spirit, it was WOW! ha.
well i really have no idea for birthday presents. BUT these little goodies can be a birhday present. Ive eaten everything you have sent already ha, So maybe more cearel and treats and stuff ha. OH yea, if you can find like a mini magnetic chess set or some kind of small chess set, that would be great. Me and my comp are both wanting to play but japanese chess is so different and has so many weird rules. BUT i will be happy with anyting!
WEll a cool thinng tha happened in this area already.. since there is literally no one in this town at certain times of the day, all we can do is house. NOT FUN. so i suggested we go try finding a place and sign up for service. Well after filling out forms we were taken to a school type place that was in the same building. We are helping watch and teach and take care of Handicapped children for highschool age to elementary school age. Yesterday we had planed to house but they asked us to help so we did. IT was a lot of fun. Even with problems they were so happy and i didnt see one kid sad or mad about anything. Also while there one of the ladies that worked there asked if we were mormon. We were kinda shocked she knew and said yes. She said her family used to mee with them about 10 yrs ago. She is 23 and livs with her parents. She gave us her number, so i caled last night and we now have an appontment with that family tonight!
Im excited!
Ok well thats really all thats happening. I gotta get off though, Me and my comp need to try and make a pinata for the halloween party. WE HAVE NO CLUE HOW ha
2 Nephi 22:2 Alma 5:44-46( I dont remember the verse numbers, its about testimony)
Love you
Elder Coffey

P.S. i did get to see conference and loved it. Elder Hollands talk about the BoM was amazing. Some of the things he said were how i have been feeling about it, it was crazy to know that his testimony and mine about the Book of Mormon had similar things.

9/2/09

Yea that tumor was gross. But im glad she is doing better.
Ive got kinda a bad headache and cant really focus or think of what to say, so this might be short sorry.
Well we are doing good here. WE have met some new potential investigators. The ones we have still havent hhad a chance to meet with us, so i dont know what we will do with that. But we are trying to spread our days out doing different things so we dont get bored and so we can build better relationships with people.
The other day we had a praying mantis on our door. We caught it and are feeding it cock roaches that get stuck in our sticky traps. We have 2 catapillars and a mantis ha. We get bored here.
The weather is getting cooler here for the most part, winter is coming.
OK well i need to go get some medicine and take a nap so i wont be out of missionary work tomorrow.
Sorry this is short.
I LOVE YOU

9/22/09

Thank you for letting me know all of this, wow there is a lot happening, i wish i could be there to help.
Things here havent been the best either. Im doing great and all, and having a blast with Elder Call, BUT non of our investigators are making the time to meet with us. OUt of these past 3 or 4 weeks we have had 0 lessons with investigators. Its horrible. but we have meet a couple of new people who will hopefully meet more and seem more interested. We will see.
Well the glow in the dark stuff was in the shape of music notes, i was cutting them into smaller shapes to look more like stars, my finger got to close and i snipped a chunk off the tip. It bled for like a day and a half, wasnt to bad. i have pictures so you will see when i send this memory card home. But it was worth it, all 4 walls and the ceiling are covered. It helps me fall asleep fast. Its like im out camping i love it, and miss the real thing.
Yesterday we had a member give us some corn, when we were husking it to eat it we found a catapiller. We made a little cage for it and feed it and named it うんち くん which like little poop i think. Ive never seen a bug poop so much, but we want to see what it turns into. I am also making giant origami when i have time, its really fun and cool looking, ill take pics for ya. cant wait to show you how to make them.
Cant wait for the mountain man pics, i hope the send some soon. Well im sorry all that is going on and thigns are getting rough. I know that when satan sees that things are going good, he picks things that will brings us down fast. For you it seems like family things, for me its investigators not meeting with us. But i found this scrip the otherday which i like a lot 2 Nephi 22:2. Its great
By the way i have finally finished the new testament. I have started the book of mormon over again and am looking for certain things when i read, and i will probably start the old testament soon.
Some cool news. I was planning on writing sister glenn a letter the other day, because my comp came out the transfer before her and had her address. Well the next day, i got a letter from a girl that was in my district at the mtc and she is companions with sister glenn now, i sent them a letter and hope to hear from them soon, but i thought that was awsome.
I love you and miss you all so much and pray for you daily!
LOVE YOU
Elder PR Coffey
PS. This area is rediculous, we have to travel for zone conference and district meeting each week, so i had to get some personal money out to help us travel, and when i say us i mean me and the comp. His card expired and his parents havent sent him the new one yet, so he had no money and we couldnt miss zone conference. So thats where a lot of the money has gone. Once im out of country areas i dont think i will pull out of personal as much. Sorry, im really tring not to spend it

9/14/09

sorry the comp was messed last week. All i really had to say is that i cut my finger decorating our sleeping room with glow in the dark stuff and that a missionary broke my camera, but gave me his since he was going home. So i have a better camera, and a ward member fixed me old one. So i will sell one of them.
I only got pictures of breggie, she is huge now stop feeding her, colby and kira. Well i hope Jeff is doing better. That really sucks for him. Breggie looks like she has grown up so much already since i have left, its crazy.
The weather here has been retarded!. It rains somedays, is super hot and humid somedays, and is perfect somedays. Right now im feeling kind of sick cause its been such drastic changes the past week.
Kind of random, but i thought it was funny, i was complimented on my upper body muscles (well mainly my shoulder and back muscles) My ward mission leader gave me a shoulder massage and said they were big. Then i got asked if i was ever part of the military... ha i guess doing 10-15 pushups in the morning and at night for a month have changed how i look ha.
Things here are going ok. It is so hard here, this area would be better if sister missionaries were here cause there are at least 3 times the number of women than men. But we try hard! We actually met with a past investiator of a couple years. He met us for the first time, then the next day ask if he was able to get baptised, so that was really cool. And we are still working with the family and college student but they are always so busy :(.
My companion is from Hooper, Utah. Close to ogden i think. No i havent had any new kinds of food yet, but i have realized that the only sea food that i like is squid (not octopus) and shrimp.
Other then that we are trying hard to find people. We are trying different ways to talk to people in diferent situations, so we wont get rejected as much. This is just a tough place.
I let you know when more happens...OH next tuesday is a holiday, so i will be emailing on wed, well tues for you
I love you!

8/31/09

WEll im staying in mito. My companion is named elder call. American, from utah. he has been out a year. He is senior comp, i dont know how long i will be working with him, hopefully more than 1 transfer. i dont want 5 different comps in 5 transfers thats really getting to hard for me. All the other missioraies that have heard ive had so many comps thinks its ruff also. OH i found out that one of the brazilians taht i roomed with in the MTC is going to be in the same district this transfer, im excited about that. Im not sure what else you want to know.
This email is going to be kinda short cause we have to by food and stuff before our pday ends.
Teachihng has slowed up a bit, but we are going to try and set up appoinments this week. It was kinda cool, on the way back to mito today, we had to switch trains and we had some time inbetween the switch, so we went to a vending machine. My comp wanted to buy some water and there was tea next to it. He pushed tea by mistake, then went back and bought water. Well i told him to give the tea to the guy behind us. WELL that guy had met the missionaries before, could speak english, gave us his name and number and wants to meet with us. I thought that was awsome. Ive realized at the end of this transfer, 8 months will be down. That kinda shocked me when i realized that, im so close to a year mark already!?
I do keep everyone in my prayers. I would love to write guy a letter, so if i could get his address that would be awsome.
AS for the box. any goodies that you want to through in is fine. cereal, shaving and pants. are the main things OH AND TOOTHPASTE, im almost out and the stuff here sucks ha.
Sorry this is short this week.
I LOVE YOU!!

Hello, Well i just got out of the temple, and walked to the closets place, which ended up being a family research center of the church, to email. Wow breggie wont be the pudgy(not fat) little girl like when i left. But thats good, she will be in shape and will have loks of fun. But her shins will kill if she isnt careful.
I got an email from jake a couple months ago, thats the only contact ive had with him since ive been gone :(. But its good to see that he did well. He will be great, i just wish he would actually communicate with me more.
Ha that should be a fun time for you and alex. Well now dad can work someone else nonstop in the front and backyard. Woo Hoo 2 year Break ha.
The weather has been the same, except for the rain. No rain for a while. Just hot and humid, always. I dont know when the next time it will rain though, hopefully not for awhile since rainy season is SUPPOSED to be over. I will be teaching english the whole 2 years. AEvery area has 1 day a week where they teach english. This area, im actually the teacher and none of the ward members help teach. So Yes tips and games will be greatly appreciated. The teaching is doing good. But but since my companion is japanese he was able to help me and fix my mistakes during the lesson, im just scared that its going to go down hill next transfer unless i get someone who can speak and understand realy well. BUT IM PRAYING HARD FOR HELP.Its kinda hard to tell how things will turn out, so im not sure if we have anything that looks promising, no one shows emotion much or makes much eye contact or anything like that.
Yea i sent one card with pictures and the 2 that say adapter on them home. But yes, there are lots of pictures. And ALOT more on the card i have now.
Ha i wouldnt expect the baseball team from japan to do that good, i watched some of a highschool game here. They cant throw a baal from 3rd to 1st with out it bouncing on the ground. They know how to play, just arent good.
Well ive got a 3 hour train ride back to mito, so i have to end this.
I dont know if i sent these scriptures to you or not, but i found them during my scripture studuy. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
I love you so much and miss you
LOVE YA, \

I think the pdays are done, maybe for a while...Hopefully. The guy who speaks english is from Africa. He has a christain background, i think he said he was baptist, but since he had a christian background, i mianly focused the lesson on BoM and Restoration, since he already knows we are gods children, he is our father and how to pray. But i asked him if he believed JS first vision. and he said he did and through god anything can happen. THen he also belieevd the BoM was real because some of the versus are similar to the Bible and they talk about the same things.
Well that girl and her mom are taking the lessons, and her little brother is know also. So that whole family is taking lessons. They have all been taught the first lesson and 2 of the 3 belive that the restoration was true and the girl said she is 50:50 on beliving it. But we are focusing our next lesson on th eBoM since they arent reading things we ask them to.
Ok well i dont have any place to buy patches, but i think they will last unti the others are sent. Colors, maybe blue black gray any of those colors are fine. If blue or gray, make it dark please. 2 pairs of pants please. Ok well i didnt get to emial yesterday because i went on splits with the ZL. Next tuesday we want to go to the temple, so i might not email until wed maybe. BUT we might not go unless we find a ride cause my companion has no money. Then the week after next is TRANSFERS. A week from tomorow i get transfer calls.... That was fast. I do want to ask a favor, a lot of the members and investigators have been giving me a bunch of free stuff, and i have been keeping memories, but they are kinda piling up, so if i can get some extra money to send a box home so i can fit everything in my suitcase ha that would be graetly appreciated. I dont think i will need to do that for a while though. Unless i get transferred, which i dont think will happen.
Yes the typhoon went through Japan first then China. It was on Pday luckily, but that just meant we were stuck inside all day. The thing breggie got is a charm ha, im not sure. ITs supposed to bring happiness or riches or whatever one i sent her I forgot which one i ended up picking for her, I thik it was blue, so invites happiness.
Well im very glad you have gotten to know Rashawn, I know she has a lot of questions. One of the 2 letters i have gotten from her asked me to give her homework out of the BoM ha. She is funny and i really cant wait to meet her. I really dont feel like i did that much for her. I answered her questions and was just a guide pretty much she and the spirit did the rest. You have learned a lot about her family? i would like to hear. I dont know to much cause she takes forever to write letters, and our emails are just short messages. You can send her any pictures you want to. As for the dvds, talk to her more, then pray about it. Youll find out what will help her and be fun for her faster that way than me finding out in the next letter and or email and telling you next week.
My readin really slowed down for a week or so, but im starting to get in the groove again Im about to start 1Timothy. Hopefully by the end of next week i will start the Old Testimant. I am studying out of the BoM as well, dont worry.
Well im glad you had so much fun with the ladies. Hope they are all doing good
Well reading your email and writing you an email took up almost all my time. Im saving a little to answer Breggies email.

LOVE YOU So much, and im so thankful for ALL the sacrifices you have all made are making and will make for me
Love Ya

ok well some news.. MY PDAY HAS BEEN CHANGED AGAIN! not fun. so AFTER next week, i will be having pday on tuesdays. So my emailing will probably happen on tuesday for me, monday for you. Thats crazy all the stuff going on. Hope that mom doesnt get to stressed like she does sometimes. Well we have to new investigators. The 19 year old girl and her mom. they have heard all of lesson 1 together. They arent to sure about JS first vision. They believe it and dont. So we will keep working on that and teaching them. Today we are taking a hour train ride to a town in our area to meet a refferal that we got from the honbu, mission home. He speaks english, but he isnt american, so we are packin 4 different languages of BoMs. Hopefully he will become an investigator also. If he does than me and my comp will have completed one of our transfer goals, to get 3 new investigators. My pants are 32 32 i think, but im not sure. That will probably be fine cause i can use a belt and roll up the pants ha. But both of my pants that i use for tracting are doing it now. Im not wearing my suits and suit pants unless i have to, so those will probably last all mission. During my scripture study today i found some realy good scriptures that i really like and my comp shared one with me. The ones i read and marked are in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10. Those are what im going to focus my mission on, and the one my comp shared is Mosiah 10:11. It kinda goes along with the ones i read. Well haapy birthday to breggie tomorrow here, and in 2 days there ha Hope all is well Love you and miss you! The work is starting to happen....FINALLY!Elder Coffey

Computer Problems

Sorry computer went down and lost email from 8/5/09

7/29/09

ok, my pday was wed last week becuase of transfers. During transfers pday is the day you transfer. while in mito i will email on thursday, but my pday is monday. I email thursday cause the place is closed on mondays. BUT yesterday in district meeting we found out that the day of PDAY might get changed again. There have been quite a lot of changes. There is no music list now, so what ever music, that we think is appropriate and the music we will have to pray about and decide on our own. Yes during the last 2 transfers i had to go to tokyo to switch comps, not so fun. each transfer was one of the farthest areas, so it was about 5 hours by train each time. But i dont know whats going on this transfer since this is my comps last. We will find out soon enough. Well it sounds like you enjoyed camp other than burning yourself. But as for Breggie, thats awsome. She must be really improving. I hope she is still playing when i get home, i want to see how good she has gotten. But tell her not to complain, once she plays 3 days straight with at least 6 games and not getting subbed then she can ha As for the box. Ive been loving the brownies! so lots more of those would be nice. I remember us finding waffle crisp at the store by wendy`s. But other than those ill be happy with anything, just make sure its kinda a lot if you send it in this transfer. My comp likes to raid all the food when im in the shower or bathroom, so all my snacks nd food that i had gotten is pretty much gone. Oh and maybe a razor and shaving cream. my electric one does good, but not all the time. Ive never used an actuall razor, just casue im scared of cutting myself, so if there is a kind that wont cut ha please and thank you. Ok well the weather here has been kinda sucky. Always Super Hot and Super HUmid so im sweating 24/7, not a fan... And on top of that there has been freak rain storms. It would pour rain every 10 to 15 minutes. Hopefully thats over. swaet is enough to soak my close right now. Well after emailing we plan on taking about a hour bike ride to a part of our area that the missionaries usually dont go to just cause its far. So hopefully we can find some success there. Last week we went on the daigaku(college) and saw people playing soccer. Well we talked to one of the players and i told him ive played for 14 years, so i was invited to practice with them. So it might be a little sketchy, i have no cleats and the field is litterally soft dirt only. But it will be fun hopefully, and we may possibly get an investigator that way. Um Well im not excited to stay in Mito any longer, there is a reason im sure, but the people are so hard hearted that they wont stop to talk to us, the past couple days our 10:2:10 has been 4:0:4 or below. those numbers are conversations, referrals, and refferal attempts. So people dont give us the time of day. PLus having a trunky comp who wants to sit in the aparto or, bike and not stop anyone doesnt help much. But im doing my best. Kinda getting stressed and beaten on it feels like. Well still no success, sorry. no stories to tell here sorry. The only good part about this place so far is a couple of the families in the ward. I sent some letters on tuesday, so monday for you, so be looking for those. I love you! Elder Coffey

The only good part about this place so far is a couple of the families in the ward. I sent some letters on tuesday, so monday for you, so be looking for those.
I love you!

7/21/09

ok i would send emails to brock and kira, but i dont know how to save their address in this system and they dont, send emails that much, so i cant send anything to them.
But this is a quick announcement. Today was transfers. Im staying in mito, but i have gotten a new companion. Another Japanese elder, lucky me.... i think. His name is elder Adachi, he is from sendai. These next 6 weeks with me are his last, because he is finished after them. so my first 4 transfers i will have 4 different companions. Kinda sucks cause your supposed to be untied and work together, but its hard wen your comp changes each transfer. So now i have to start all over building trust and realationship and all that. But it should be fun, he can speak english pretty goodn and understands it better than my last comp. So i will be getting more help.
Im sending an email today because of tranfers our pday gets moved to tranferday. Um not much is going on. I got the box with the goods, thank you so much. Ill hopefully send a letter to reply to dads letter and yours from the box either today if i have time, or monday. This is short, sorry but a little over 6 hours on a train doesnt leave much time for email and food shopping. I love you cant wait to read your emails next thursday, well wednesday for you. LOVE YOU!!! Elder Preston Coffey

7/15/09

ok well as for the new monday pday, im not the biggest fan. The place that we email from is closed on monday, and there is no where else i am allowed to email from in this town, which is kind of odd.. So for this week and at least next week maybe ill be emailing on thursday still. Also thursday Pdays i like better because it gives a break in the middle of the week, instead of going all week without one. Now on mondays we end pday an hour early to email on another day.
I think that my new misson president is from utah but i dont remember. He is very smart and very successful person. A professor at stanford BYU michigan and 1 or 2 others. And he is on the top level of different corpoations. I will definatly be learning a lot from him. The weather here has been heating up a lot, and feels like getting more humid. Luckily it hasnt rained for about a week.
That seems like the way a lot of people are dying these days, sleeping pills. I sent a letter to the house you should be getting it soon. Plus i was going to email this monday, so it might be to late now, but if you read this in Utah and still have time, i think you should go visit President and Sister Hill (well now brother and sister hill). 1313 East Creek Road Sandy,UT 84903. That would mean a lot to me and them if you did. Cause i know that all they went back to was family and friends.
Im excited for Utah because there are things to do. The season actually change, its not just sun and rain like SD. AS for the money ill probably leave it in there for right now, or at least for a couple weeks. I have figured how i can use my MSF on the food and stuff throught the week so i wont run out of that. 300 bucks a month about 50 bucks each week, should work. I got an email from garrett so when im done with yours and family, im seeing what it says, its probably about what happened to him. I would love to have the scout shirt, but i dont ever where normal clothes enough so it would probably be sitting in a drawer here. so it would be better staying with you.
ONe thing that i would like sometime it doesnt have to be soon, maybe for christmas or something, but a MINI Bible. I have a tiny, mini BOM so its easy to travel to meeting with that, but my quad is shuch a mondai( problem). I have also finished the 4 gosples and have continued into acts and im in the last chapter of Jesus the christ. The feeling i get from the bible is something all together different than from the BOM its crazy.
This past week we have met with one of our english students and have been teaching him. He understands everything, but always says it seems like buddhism, he leaves for china in a couple days so we arent sure whats gunna happen with him. I did here from the girl from oregon, i think i wrote about it in the letter i sent. But she said she has never made a better decision in her life.
Yea well neat spots in this town are a giant park that has swans and crazy fish. Thats about it. I thnk im like a hour or so from the water maybe, im not to sure. Oh a neat experience i had, i got to anoint someone with oil for the first time, and after the blessings she gave us something interesting to eat, which will be explained in the next paragraph.
Ok well ive got some things to say ha that i have realized this past week. WEll first is ive been here 6 weeks already, transfer calls come saturday morning, chances are me and my comp are staying here, but i dont know. Second thing is ive realized that since ive been here ive been able to eat anything without getting sick or thinking it is gross. For example, after the blessing i ate squid that was stuffed with rice. It was everything but the tenticals. It was actually kinda good. Then yesterday, i had som INDO CURRY, shock huh, well it was amazing 10 times better then the stuff i had in utah ha. And another shock to you and dad probably, I eat onions. They dont bug me now, its so weird, but ive realized its a blessing.
Yesterday during my district meeting i have also figured out my main reason for coming on a mission. It might be kind of selfish, but oh well. Its so that i can become a stronger, better person and member of the church.
I love you all so much LOVE YOU

NEWS FLASH!! I had interviews with the New Mission President. He is really awsome. Crazy smart and CRAZY successful ha, But after today my PDAYS will be on Mondays for me here, so sunday for you. I dont know why he is changing days but he is, So we get to email and right letters on monday as well. 2 pdays in like 5 days.... nice
This week im doing good, Just really tired still from lack of sleep. Teaching english is pretty fun. 2 of the eikaiwa (english class) students that we teach at the church are investigators, slowly progressing ive come to find out. So we have met with them since last email. But no sympathy for my teachers, they were teaching english to people who could speak english ha, im not. So how did Micheal Jackson die? That sounds like it was good to watch, they probably show a lot of his stuff on tv now huh?
Your 4th of July sounded good, I got to bike around in the rain all day. No fire works, mail, new investigators,or any one on the streets to talk to and no one would anser their door. So that was a trying day. But i went on splits with my district leader the next day and it was pretty good. Where did Dane serve again? that is crazy he is home that seemed way fast. My mission seems to be going by fast for me at least, i realized when i was wrighting in my journal that im about a quarter done ha. Well i would rather be in San Diego right now when it comes to weather. With the humidity im always sweating. Even when it rains, its freaking hot. So wearing a rain suit plus the heat, plus the humidity ha my clothes get drenched, not by rain, BY SWEAT. That stuff in the box will be great.
I got your letter yesterday or the day before, so ill be sending a reply to that today sometime. How is breggie doing in goal, for some reason that popped into my head the otherday. Is she going to try out for the soccer team at helix?? I hope people send me pictures of these weddings and things, they would be nice to see. BUT since when was Christie pregnant, well have fun on that trip. As for the money. I got an electric Dictionary, which was really needed here, then i thought i had a good amount left so i took out more for train travel and snacks/food. So im doing my best not to spend anymore of that for a while, but yea how about you tell me when it is ok for me to take out my 10000 yen. Ill be fine now because im pretty sure i wont be getting in any accidents. Im the safer kid in the family when it comes to cars and bikes ha. That sucks about Chase, where was the high adventure camp this year? AHH SOCCER I NEED TO PLAY HA. I havent actually done running since my last game in California. I luckily havent gained any weight which is kinda werid ha. You better keep my updated on the housing and stufff, i think im the most excieted out of everyone to move to utah.
Um i have been doing mougi, or practice lessons with members, so ive been learning new tango sorry, vocab and how to do better at teaching. Right now in this area there isnt really anything that i can say that stands out about the rest, it all has its ups and downs here.
Yea me and my comp joke around all the time. He always askes me to help his english and i always ask him to help my japanese, so its great. He came out last year in December, he only had to be in th J MTC for 3 weeks since he is japanese. He is only 9 days older than me. His birthday is the 9th and mine 18th. I dont think he plays sports, but he likes watching volleyball and figure skating. He is the only active member in his family. But he is very good at the piano. He also can play the clarinet, trumpet and trambone. He likes when you sent the food, a lot of the stuff you sent he tried for the first time, and loved it ha. Especially the gold fish and choco cookies. I love you so Much, when things get going. And more interesting, I will let you know
LOVE YOU ALL, Elder Coffey

July 1, 2009

So one of the ward members told me that Micheal JAckson died, ha is that true? If so give me details. Wow life seems pretty busy for breggie and the you two, but what about brock? There are so many things happening, i better be getting pictures. If i wasnt here id be going with grandma and grandpa ha. Things are going pretty good with me and my comp. We have had a couple lessons, in english and japanese. Everyone wants to learn english and only want to speak english when they can, so its very hard speaking japanese to our investigators. So i am also an english teacher here, every saturday morning we do english class at the church. Since my comp is japanese i teach. Then every tuesday at a home for the handicapped, i teach handicapped people and old people, they are both pretty fun. Im running out of ideas though so can you help me with A LOT of games that would help people learn english please... We are in a ward, very small ward. Um we try and split time between things everyday, so we street, bike, pass out english class flyers, house, post. We do as much different types of work we can do in the time we have. Streeting and stopping people on the streets is the hardest though. Most all the people are on one main street, so we are there often, but everyone knows who we are now. Hope everything is going well with you all, i didnt get to much time on the comp today so i have to cut mine kinda short. I love you all so much Love Elder Coffey

6/24/09

ok there are a couple things that i need Memory cards, i put the extra in to see if they would work, but i found out that those extra i got for christmas were adapters, not memory cards. So some more SD memory cards, Probably 1 is fine. I need some earplugs! Good ones that wont fall out. Ive gotten minimal sleep the past week and a half, my companion makes the weirdest noises while sleeping, 10,000 times worse than breggie grinding, so i always get woken up at like 2 or so and have trouble going back to sleep. Also some spray deoderant and something i can use in the shower to help my face so i wont get anymore break outs. The sweat is killing my face here.
You can still do emails, since it will be like 2 weeks before you get a reply to a letter, a week to get here and a week to go there. so everyonce and a while will be good.
Yea just wait til she has to get up for seminary, she doesnt know what early is ha, thats probably what the number 1 toughest thing for me is, biking all day and doing so much stuff out in the heat and getting super tired and having to wake up at 6:30( well right now about 2 in the morning :( ... ).
How did you find out that there were rats in the BBQ? thats kinda weird ha. taste good?
OK well so far no teraching appointments, we were supposed to have one tonight, but he cancelled. Language is まま (so so). Im starting to ask more and more questions about things to my companion, trying to get out of my bubble of not asking much. Um im doing a lottle better at understanding people, but not much, im trying to pick out words and grammers that i hear and try guessing what they say. Um the streets here are a little hilly, but its all paved roads so its easy biking. I dont know the name of the street, but if you can find Mito station than you can see the town im in. The apartment is about 5 or 10 minutes away fro that train station. I will let you know when people actually start doing stuff and when we start teaching, but as for now, nothing sorry. I love you so much!!!!! Elder Coffey

Email from 6/18/09

Sorry this is a day late, we went to the temple yesterday, and it was much needed and we didnt get back til late so we didnt have time to email yesterday. Um for cereal waffle crisp, frosted cheerios, frosted mini wheats, captin crunch. I haven't found the Golden spoon yet, im not in tokyo, just a couple hours by train away. Things this week are going okay, better then the past couple probably. My companion is good, i like him a lot, his english isnt good, but he practices by speaking to my in english and my japanese isnt good, so i practice by responding in japanese...WELL at least we try to ha. Yes he is helping my japanese a lot, we do this thing called baseball dendo, we each take turns, we each have to stop 3 people if they all reject then its 3 strikes and the next person goes. But if you get someone to have a conversation then its a hit and the Other person goes, so thats fun. So far no hits for me, ha but its because im white. maybe.
This morning i got the packages, right before coming to email. THANK YOU!!!! now i can save some money cause we have snacks. It kinda seems like things here are more expensive then my last area, so please will you give me an update of my money every couple weeks. Its seems like ive used a lot these past couple weeks. But still thank you so much it will all be used well. And Breggie that was really awsome what you wrote about the best two years, That was well needed as well THANK YOU!!
Well i have been reading out of Jesus the Christ, and reading well started reading out of Matt ,Mark, Luke and John. So those are helping me to better understand things Jesus did and why he would do them and how i need to become to help the people like he helped the people. I sent off some letters today, one is for dad for fathers day, i think thats soon, i have no calender so im not sure when so sorry if it is late. Then one for the family, its got pictures and a smal note. Ill be sending my card home soon cause printing pics here are more expensive, but i have to other ones besides the one in the camera, so i think i will be good.
UM my pant size is 32 i think. As for pepole to teach, we have some people, but havent had a chance to talk to them since they have all been busy, last night we did have dinner with this really cool guy, im the 123 missionary that he has met. But he seems very good, and i think if we keep working at him he will eventually get baptised.
Ok well im pretty sure ive responded to all if not, most I love you all so much and thank you for everything! ]
LOVE YOU Elder Coffey

Cool experience

The saturday night before getting transferred a ward member brought her friend over and and invited the 4 missionaries (since they were women). I shared my testimony, i talked about the book of mormon and how it has changed my life. After i shared my testimony i gave her a book of mormon. The next day at church the ward member came up to me and told me her friend said it was like i was reading her mind. everything i said she said she knew was right and that she wanted the BOOK, so before leaving i got the promting and it was strong so i gave it to her.

6/10/09 email

Ok well ive got some news for you. i didnt have time to put it in last week. Last saturday we got transfer calls, those happen every 6 weeks here. Well saturday morning i got a call. I got transfered to MITO, thats an area or 2 above where i was at on the map that has all the stakes. And my new comp is Japanese. BOY IS IT TUFF. I can say things in simple japanese, but when he says things to me its hard. these next few weeks are going to be SO FREAKIN HARD!! But my prayers are being answered in a way i wouldnt like but hey its not my choice how they are answered right? I prayed to do better at understanding and i got a Japanese comp. It was really sad to leave togane though. Even though i was there for only 6 weeks, i made friends with a lot of the ward members. You know the half japanese elder that was staying in the 4 man, he told me that i get asked if im part japanese more than he does. The last 2 weeks before getting transferred i got asked at least 5 times. OK for the box, ive got a couple more things, they dont have to be in this except for one thing. A BETTER RAIN SUIT. the thing we got at missionary mall is useless, the water seeps through and it tears easily. Ill need that soon cause its the beginning of rainyy season here.
Also for a box my CD of Andre Bocielli dunno how to spell that, but the blind italian opera guy please. Also since kira hasnt replied, ask her to put some john bytheway, a song called via dolorosa and songs from SHeDAISY on a cd for me please.Wow breggie is almost a freshman already, thats crazy. I honostly thought there was a lot more time before she went into high school. When do you think of moving to utah? I thought it was after she finished middle school so she wouldnt leave in the middle of the school year. those dogs are way to smart though, so thats a good idea on the chip. but wow, at least they were together right? thats kinda crazy. Shadow is a mix of 2 of my favorite dogs yes! ha
The session is done in japanese, but if you put an english tag on they give you headphones that translate it into english, and at the veil they will say it in english for you. I probably wont try japanese til the last couple months before coming home, it was really awsome to listen to it in japanese though. I did get a letter from caitlin gardner which was awsome, so ill write back to her soon. but yea, other than that not to many people are sending anything. Here the weather kind sucks right now. Its about to start summer, but summer is rainy season. So when it rains, it pours for 3 days at least without stopping, and when its not raining, its super hot and sunny. So im not a big fan of the weather. So hopefully this new are will be better, make sure you do emails early enough so i will get it by thursday morning here, my comp is kinda quiet and doesnt say anything, so when i see him getting dressed i just follow, and follow where he rides.Ill let you know when more happens, Im going to try sending a letter in japanese soon so look for that.
LOVE YOU SO MUCH

Email

We are doing emails right before going to the temple, so this will be quick and maybe sloppy cause we were told we dont have much time. And thank you for the email address for jackie. Yea thats crazy that they are graduating, still havent gotten anything from them. Sucks i get to miss everything, but hey there wil be a baby when i get home and a sister in law. For the box any candy. Some cearal. and deoderamt and spray i got through that fast here. Please and thank you, and what ever you want to send. Things are going ok, could definatly be better, but im working my hardest. Curry, ramen, tonkatsu, fried squid, yakisoba those are different foods. Not really any sights yet, ill send my card home when it has more pics on it. I can speak the language deciently, i was just commented on how well i pronunciate japanese, i just cant understand people.

Weekly email

ok there is one thing i would like you to try and find out please, JAckie Berkhimers address. If my phone still works you can text her, if not let me know and i can send my address to her quickly in myspace or facebook or something, but i would like to stay friends with her. ThAT SOUNDS LIKE A BLAST WITH THE FAMILY. THE COMPUTER IS MESSED UP SO ITS IN CAPS NOW SORRY, nevermind, fixed it.I wish i could have seen the curtis family, i miss them. Before telling me where Jake goes see if he will write me or email me please, i would like him to tell me. AS for the note, i did send you a copy of it, its in the box for you that i sent to kira right befefore leaving, kira has a copy for brock and yours is in the box that im guessing you still havent gotten. Let me know who you want to share it with, or who you do. You can share it with anyone and type it and do anything. Let the young men read it. For the most part me and my comp get along. He still has almost 2 months, so he really shouldnt be to trunk. I havent gotten a reply back from the girl that got baptised, but i will let you know when i do. Things arent happening, not teaching anyone, the one that was close to getting baptised that was beeing taought before i got there said it might be years before her husband lets her. so not so successful as of now. I havent gotten mail or email thats cool, i was actually thinking about kepper and joaquin the other day, it would be nice to hear from them. Im glad you like the poem. Im sending some pics and my memory card home with some oragami in it that i did, so be looking for that sometime in the next weeks

i still havent heard from anyone. I havent heard about her baptism yet, but hopefull when she gets the letter i sent she wll reply.
Yea i would like the shirts as soon as possible, with at least a box or 2 of cereal Maybe some waffel crisp, or anything really. Its to hot to wear long sleeve shirts and i only have 3 short sleeve, so they get sweaty and dirty really fast. And yes im 15 1/2.
TELL people to email or something, i want to here things like that from jake. Thats really awsome though, he will do good wherever he goes.
So breggie is dong good in goal sounds like, thats great! and its good that she has friends on the team to stick up for her. Oh yea, for the Shirts send as many as you can please. The language is ok. I can barely communicate with anyone cause i cant understand what is being said. So i try to say something if i know whats going on, but most of the time its my comp haveing a conversation with me trying to catch whats happening. So ive come to realize that he is not the greatest acting missionary, by his language, hand gestures and songs he sings that we realy shouldnt be listening to. PLus he always wants to do housing everyday, and thats a failure here cause when we are out everyone works and has school.
Sports are really fun, especially soccer. i did a move on one of the kids tuesday and it made him fall on the floor, i also got the 3 other missionaries im with to agree to a compitition. The last person to score had to do the first person to scores dishes for a night. My comp has to do my dishes ha its awsome. We might make deals like that every week. But yea sports are fun, but ive gone from 75 kilos to 78 this past week. I need to excerise more and eat less.
Ok well there is a long line for the computers and im almost out of time, if i have time ill write a letter and send it off today or tomorrow.
LOVE YOU ALL ELDER\ PR COFFEYPS
tell kira to write or email or something I havent gotten anything from here in over a month and she didnt talk much on the phone

Weekly email

yea jess has been sending me emails about that baby, which is awsome. I did think of stuff you can send me. the short sleeve shirts for sure, i think my neck is 15 1/2, and some cereal on granola and trail mix and american candy ha. Who all askes about me at church each week? seems like a lot of people do.
People here are usually really nice, there have been a few rude people but there will always be those kinds of people. the height of people here is like in USA its all different. i tower over some, some are the same height, and some are really tall. The people i play basketball with are like robbies size, they got really suprised when i jumped and touched the rim. it was funny. i guess im the first missionary to play with them that has done it. And the people i play soccer with are really good, tuesday a couple of them had manchester jerseys on and i had my england shirt, but next week im wearning my arsenal shirt ha. but the people that are in charge of each sport are bth non members, BUT the one for soccer, his whole family is and is in the ward, and the wife of the man in charge of b-ball wants to get baptised, but he wont let her, so we got permission to play and become friends and soften him up hopefully.
My comp is from Florida, elder evans is from utah and elder baldwin is from idaho. I did have to by a new bike, and the guy gave me a discount, it was 46,000 yen instead of 50,000 yen so 460 dollars instead of 500 pretty much. Next pday we might begoing to an electronic store so i can get an electronic didctionary, but no i havent goten one yet.
Yea i got a letter from the girl in oregon, i plan on staying in contact with her, ill either send off a letter today or tomorrow. Well last week on friday i think, we had a lesson set up with a lady that is close to baptism and we had the bishop meet us there to help us, butshe wasnt there. So the bishop took us to a less active ladies house to tlk to her, but i guess she has been seperated from her husband the past 3 months, so we talked to him instead. He isnt a member. But he likes us a lot. We met him for dinner and talked with him last night to get to know him/ Well i tried to do that ha. But we found out that his mother in law, well used to be i guess gave him a liahona to read, and he has been reading it, and he told us he wants to meet with us a lot. So saturday we are going to give him a tour of the church and have him watch the restoration movie. and talk to him about it. I have a good feeling about him, he seems like he will be great, except he smokes and i think drinks so thats something to work on if he wants to go farther. other than that not to much is happening, we have been working with the ward members trying to get refferrals and stuff, but there really isnt that many people here, so its sorta slow here. If they dont write me soon ill write them a fake hate mail ha. if they dont want to write tell them to email me.
tomorrow i think i get to go to the BYU wind symphany concert that is touring the world, or japan (not sure) right now, so im kinda excited for that. umm other than that, i think im getting a "dendo baby" dendo is japanese for mission. so i think im getting fatter, ive never beeen fed so much food from people in my life than i have the past 3 days. And that is for realz im not joking you
OK FAMILY! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH! another week has blown by and another is comming, ant wait to read next weeks email

Finally got an email - yea!!!

im not sure what the firsst part of the email is, but i have the one from brocks computer.

OK for the call, i have the phone number and the time, but i dont know the time difference or the numbers you need to call japan. So you will need to call me Saturday night about 9 My time, which is friday in USA and im not sure what time that is for you. My companion might answer in japanese so just say you need to talk to me, They are only giving us 45 minutes to talk though :(.

Yea when i had my first interview with the mission Pres he told me that they were very good
friends with them. thats awsome.

I did get the box which is awsome! thanks for the blanket and slippers and the tie from breggie. BUT i dont want you to send stuff if it will cosst that much, send smaller stuff and lighter stuff, i feel bad :/.

My flight was long and boring. I studied and read and studied and read. I got to eat salmon and chicken for my 2 meals. My companon is from Florida, his name is elder metts, i dont know if the mission home sent a picture or not. Im doing really good. the ward members are so nice here in my first area. So dad can stalk ill tell you. Its called Togane. Ive given 3 or 4 practice lessons to the members in japanese already, and most of them speak english so they help me a lot. I live in a tiny apartment about the same amount of space as my room and the bathroom combined, but 4 people living there. The food here is awsome. I had japanese curry which is a million times better then indain curry ha. i love it. i dont have much time our train comes soon.

I might send my memory card home the first couple weeks cause these are laptops at a library so i can hook up. But the church is 3 stories and is one of he tallest buidling in the city. And it takes about 30 minutes to get to a place we need to go on bike if we dont get stopped or slowed down. Ok well i need to go catcha train, Ill hopefully have more time next thursday cause i got fed and gave a practice lesson about prayer right before coming.

I love you all so much and cant wait to here from you on saturday my time friday your time.

Day left for Japan

There will not be an email from Elder Coffey today because he left the MTC in Provo, Utah for Toyko Japan. We were able to talk to him from the airport this morning. He had a delay in Salt Lake so he called us early. He sounded really good. He was excited yet a little nervous. He is thankful for all the support, letters and emails he as received from everyone. Learning the language has been a challenge for him, but he has had some great experiences in the MTC such as meeting someone at the referral center and helping her prepare to be baptized in May and the many talks from the Apostles. We know he will be a great missionary and will need you continued prayers and support. Thank you all very much and we hope to have emails going again soon.

Weekly email

Hey mom and dad. Thats funny about shadow. I think he just misses me playing with him. So make sure that happens. Eveverone loved the shirts, they are great. The weather here is perfect. its warm but not hot. And its happening right when im about to leave.

Oh my investigator has a baptismal date set for may 16. I got so excited when she told me that. She said she is going to write me while im in japan so i can continue to help her. One week from today and im heading to japan! It is exciting and im kinda nervour about it.

I have gotten all the boxes you have sent thank you so much. It all is amazing. Um there is a couple things that i will need ASAP i need to get $100 cash for the plane rides, and i need that ASAP so let me know if i have enouogh in my account, then the money for the Bike will have to be in my account by the time i get there, also $150 for the electronic dictionary that the Mission home will be selling. I dont need the dictionary its just a helpful tool. But i NEED the $100 dollars and bike money in my account soon.

So sunday i ran into williams, the people that stayed at our house for the wedding. Finally. It wasnt long cause he had to go to priesthood. But yea i finally saw him. I will be sending a box of stuff that i dont think i will need or be using so i can save room. So let kira know ill send it to her and from her you can get it. There is some things in there for the family. like a japanese primamry song book. Um i should have asked before doing this but, i have been trading ties with some missionaries, so i hope thats ok with you, somepeople said their moms would get mad if they traded. but i was just letting you know i did. Ill make up for the ones i traded at the japanese dollar store.

Ok as for me going to BYU, yes i do want to go there, so whatever i need to do to help fill out application, let me know. And let me know things that i will need to do for a soccer scholarship or something like that. Cause thats the main thing is getting on the team and going to BYU.OK well im not sure what else there is to say right now. Your next email from me will come from JApan. OH i remember, can you check to see if jack garrett chase and marrissa and jason and i forgot who else, but see if they got the letters i sent them. I havent gotten anything back from them yet. Thank you

I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!!

That's my drawing, i was expecting it to actually be from someone else. Do you think you would be able to send me more copies before i go please? Ive got a couple things to ask about before i actually start the details. When you are done with the english ensign with all the talks can you send it to me please, so i can have those powerful talks with me throughout my mission, also I LOVE THE PHOTO ALBUM! that was such a great suprise it made me so happy, i got it the day after that stuff happened, but i can get some pictures of the dogs please, i miss them especially mine ha.

So my investigator has been doing great, i talked to her yesterday and she told me she named her turtle after me, kinda weird but really awsome as well. So i want to know what are you and Dad thinking about moving, cause some of my friends and I are wanting to have some kind of idea of doing something kinda like brock, BUT not so messed up ha. OK THIS IS IMPORTANT youll have to send me deoderant a lot while im there. Because of the humitity everyone sweats like crazy in Japan, and japanese dont smell bad, so they dont have good deoderant ha so ill need that a lot, maybe a boxfull that will last the whole mission ha jk.

Things are going a lot better then last week. Sunday was like a normal sunday here, not anything really special. But i did get your package before easter and i loved all of it so much thank you! I have been saying some pretty crazy prayers lately, and they really have been getting answered. Since last tuesday happened i can actually feel it stronger and am able to realize it. One exapmle is that i prayed that i could feel the influence of the Holy Ghost stronger and the day after i asked for that i heard a voice in my head tell me to read the ensign that i had at the time. So i opened from where i left off and the story or talk was about our heritage and that we come from god and we are his sons and daughters, so after last week that was really a great experiance. And more have happened since then. Thats really asome about second wards youth thing. How did chase, jack and garrette do? Garrette is very right but even if its tough and we break down sometimes Te Lord is still there. Yea yesterday was the best day by far here, and today its pouring, kinda sucks. I dont think there will be any soccer til im in Japan.

I cant wait to get the Shirts we are all so excited for them. ONE of the elders is going to australia now, but he still wants his shirt. My distric has slowly dwindled from 12 to 9 its kinda sad. My investigator has been doing great! she has been meeting with the missionaries there in oregan. She watched all of conference, she went to church on easter sunday, And she is thinking about being baptised but she has some concerns that im trying to help her with. Like i told you she named her new turtle after me, because i have changed her life so much..I havent heard from Kira for a while so let her know i love her and miss her a lot anf thank her for the packages she has sent, I really love the shirt she sent me to.

OK I LOVE YOU MOM & DAD& BREGGIE

Another week

I didnt get to print this so sorry if i forget things. Well i got drawings from blake ryan and jacob and the new girl in the class from primary, i thought that was awsome, it made me really happy. Yea she told me that they moved, they live out in santee now. Im glad you liked the birthday present. What did you do with the rest of the stuff i sent in the box?

Conference was SOOOO AMAZING! This has been my favorite by far. There were a couple talks that stood out to me so much, like Elder Hollands on Sunday about Christ's atonement and how he was pretty much alone in His journey, then President Uchtdorf and Eyring in priesthod session was AWSOME!. I love listen to Uchtdorf he is my favorite i could listen to things he says for a long time. But i think that President Eyrings talks had the biggest affects on me this conference, especially the priesthood session.

Thats ok about the Dear elders, i dont expect them everyday. Your busy and have a life and things get in the way. I understand. Im just happy you send some a couple time through out the week. Some people here dont get any mail for a couple weeks at a time and i feel kinda sorry for them. Do you think you can get me the Picou's address so i can talk to justin please. I go t a box from Dad's cousins yesterday full of homemade goodies. I dont have their address even though we stayed at their house, so can you let them know i appreciate it very much! People keep asking me how i dont get fat from all the cookies and candy that i get from people. I just answer and say IM AWSOME. ha.

Ok well i had a scary experience, thursday last week when we went to do the teaching that we do each week, my teacher decided to suprise us and say we are switching companions. So me and i got paired with one of the brazilians only had 30 minutes to prepare together before teaching in japanese. It didnt go so good, the best part was singing im a child of God in Japanese. That worked only cause we were teaching about our lives on earth and why we are here and where we started from.

Another week down

I replied to matts email. Ok well this week was good, sunday was awsome because i got a really good point out of my lesson and zone conference. The Lord does things on His own time, and I havent been patient and waiting for Him to help me with the things im asking help for. Ok well as for the headache thing, i still have dizzyness a lot, so i went to the health clinic and the doctor said its (i cant remember the word exactly) Labrynthoma or somethin like it. But it deals with balance something with the inner ear. so he gave me medicine for it and if it doesnt go away this week then i go back in. Funny story after gym yesterday, the 4 people in my room including me went to take a shower, so we shut the door to our room and showered. I was the first done so i went to the door, guess what......LOCKED. so the 4 of us sat outside our door for about 30 minutes in just our towels while someone went to the office and got a key for us. Good times ha. As for me being the DL, my last day was saturday, But my companion got called as the new one, so it still feels like i am if that makes sense. (mostly cause he kinda does things at his pace so i rush him and things so we wont be late) But yea our room has the ZLs and the DL. Well i think this is awsome the ZLs are brazilian, they got to talk to the Brazilian Embassidor. I thought it was awsome that he even came here, but even more that they got to talk to him.

Well thats awsome now that you have the house to yourself for a bit. I hope you have fun. OK DAD listen to your wife! Go nap. The loudest one of your children is in DC for a week or 2 nows your chance. Take mom with you. get a movie go back in your room with her and fall asleep. PLEASE!. Yea lucky you, good weather. It snowed here sunday and sunday night. So ill be lucky if the field opens after conference now. :( Oh well the person that i met at the call center is actually a girl, i talked with her last monday. tuesday for 4 hours, yesterday and again today in a couple minutes. Its going good. I enjoy answering all the questions and helping her to understand. I did send her a book of mormon actually and things are going good. I dont know what else to write so if i fogot anything let me know

Week 6

Yes Time really is flying by, FAST. My email will be short as well, because last night at the RC i got someone on a chat who i was answering his questions and he only wants me to talk with him, so im waiting to see if he gets on like he said he wanted to. Some things i would like in the box also are 2 pocket knives, the 2 with brown handles please, also can Some more Pilot G-s pens please. Ok things that i need info about, my passport, do you know where it is and the Mission President in Tokyo sent me a letter about family info, and i think I know everyones age, but can you tell me kira brock and breggies age so to make sure please. Thank you so much for the trail mix i love it! its delicious. And thank you for sending the newspaper, ill probably send it back though just cause i dont want it ruined. I dont know if i told you or not but my weekly service project every friday is to unload and stock the food for the cafeteria. THATS A LOT OF FOOD!. Mom i think i got your traight of Migrains. Yesterday(Monday) I woke up super dizzzy and couldnt even stand. Which caused a bad headache. I was like that off and on all day and i fell over a couple times :(. And this morning i woke up the same, but i just have a bad headache. Its getting better though.Well one good thing about yesterday is that i have an investigator who got on the Mormon.org web site and started a chat and i got to talk to him and he want s to learn more. Well today might be my last day as district leader. THey switch about half way through, But we only have 3 people who could be it cause the 2 brazilians in the room with me and my comp. got called to ZONE LEADER, but that means i might stay being district leader MAYBE. So dads cousin or the guy that was down for the wedding never found me like he said he was going to. OHHHHH and i got to see the last session of the Draper Temple dedication. IT WAS AMAZING!!I loved it so much, and even though i was watching it off the projector i could stilll feel the spirit. It was great.

Ok well i gotta go

Week 5

Hey mom and dad and breggie. Im going to write a letter today to and send it either today or tomorrow. It will mainly be for Mom and one for grandpa this week. This past beek had its ups and downs for me, and probably like you. Japanese just isnt sticking in my head when i learn it, and i dont have enough hours or time to study more then i do. Um sunday was good for me, better then last week, at the fireside one of the songs we sang was "We'll Bring the World His Truth" i loved that song so much before coming on a mission, and now singing it as a missionary it has changed so much and the words mean so much more to me, ha to tell you the truth i started crying while singing it. Um Oh yesterday in our Large Group Meeting, which wasnt very large cause all the senpai or older japan missionaries left monday morning. But there was something there that stuck out to me a lot that i would like to share with all thoughs who read this. I think he said this is a quote from Pres. Monson it says " pray as if everything depends on the Lord, and work as if everything depends on yourself." this kinda helped me to get even more focused and realize that this time isnt for me, these next 2 years are for the Lord and what ever he wants me to do. MY life is the Lords the next 2 years.Ill be sending the shirt plans and info with the letters to you, so ill send them tomorrow, cause i still need to finish writing them tonight. Im Glad grandpa is doing good, i did put his name on the prayer list at the temple, and the next day you sent me something saying he is doing better. I dont have much time today cause we have assigned times to go to the temple now so it wont be so hecktic and i need to leave in like 3 minutes. For the box, thin mints and ties are all i can think of right now, ill write more in the letters tonight if i can think of anything.

I LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!!

Week 4

So before I forget the speaker last Tuesday was Yoshihiko Kikuchi from the quorum of the 70. He is from japan and he had a lot of really awsome things to say. One thing that stood out the most is that when ever we share any messsage about the gospel is that we should never play like a drummer.

Um i feel really bad asking you to get all this stuff for me, and me not being able to do anything back. Well i have remembered a few things, My BofM that president packer gave me that had the color code on the inside cover, Some more of my ties, Brocks adress so i can send him stuff, super glue and Shoe shine kit. Oh also can you let me know how much money is on my cards please.

Ok well sunday was a little rough for me in the middle of the day, i started crying randomly for about 15 minutes, but i realized ive never been away from you all for so long, and i miss you all soo much, but during sac. meeting i read my p blessing which helped me a lot, and i prayed for comfort and i got it almost immediatly.

I am very suprised to hear helix got that far, but that is so awsome. im glad that they got farther this year (kinda).

Finally someone bought it, who was it? Ok well hopefully i can put that money into a car of my own when i get back, and i am so glad to hear that breggie has done a 180 from devil to angel ;) jk she never really was that bad. This time has been flying by which seems kinda nice to me for some reason, i am already wanting to get out of the MTC, i feel caged in. Its snowed the passed 2 days, so the chances of me playing soccer are even worse now.

OH can you look in the packet that i got with my mission call to see where my letters and packages will go to in Tokyo, i think its to the mission home there, but let me know what the adress is please. Im glad you got the pictures and yes i do get the dear elders. PLease let Brother John Price know thanks for the letter, since he didnt put a return address on.

Im out of time so i have to go

Week 3

Breggie you arent allowed in my room remember ha jk. well good job on making all stars. your great. Just tell everyone to grow up and be goalie next time if they start complaining.. THats great and really suprising for helix. Let Kepper know how im doing, and ask him if he can make copies of the games that im missing so i can watch them (eventually) please. You can make me anything you want to, just make sure there arent a lot of chocolate chips in them. The language is coming ok, im still working hard, they just try to cram so much info in such a short time that its hard to take it all in. The MTC is like church and seminary, but 24/7.
Mom and Dad, thats awsome that you have all 4 stores now, hoping papa popo is keeping busy then haha. OOOOHH i love girl scout cookies, um LOTS (and i mean lots) of thin mints, and maybe some short bread cookies. HAve breggie tell me why she wants to go on a mission in the next email, or in a letter, or dear elder thing. And thats awsome she is thinking that she wants to already. Um today and yesterday its been cloudy and hazey and kinda windy. but other then that the weather here has been great. Jessica sent me a dear elder, she told me the name of the baby, and she said the middle name is Robert cause of me and her grandpa, i thought that was awsome. Socks, i really only need more church socks, but eventually ill need more of my reagular ankle socks, cause lots of the ones i have have holes in them. um either Actual sweat pants, or the ones i have at home, either one will be great. So this sunday wasnt as good as last one, but i forgot to tell you that Elder Ballard came to our Tuesday night devo. last week, so im excited to see who comes tonight.. P day we still can only do the things ive said unfortuantly, so its not really anything special yet. THe japanese is coming alright, I just wish it could be easier and it is easier for me to understand how to speak and when people speak. Dont be afraid to send Dear Elders, and let other people have my address and know about Dear Elder. Oh and mom the oil vial, i forgot what the new one looked lilke, but the old one had angel moroni on it i think and the inside glass vial broke.

I also sent some pictures home today, so hopefully by thursday or friday youll get them, and ill do my best sending some home on a regular basis.

I LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!!!!

Week 2

Yea this week has gone by so fast, im happy and sad about it at the same time. So i really dont have much time for an email this week cause i got so many from other people. Tell everyone to write me letters cause im only allowed to email to you. I am also sending a letter since i didnt get very much time. YES i did get the package, mail and email, thank you soooo much! Ok so let kepper know im doing great and the language is getting better. And tell Jessica and Cheryl and Aunt Carla to write me so i can answer what they say. The letter im sending will have more details with the DL thing. Breggie is going to be the all star (again) this year, good luck i know youll do great. One thing that i didnt write in the letter, we went to the refferal center on Monday and out of about 10 phone calls i made, only 1 person picked up, but that 1 person i was able get them to have the missionaries go to their house and share the Book of Mormon, but that was all thanks to the spirit that we both felt over the phone. Well thats good and bad for papa popo, ha but he never learns when it comes to gettting burned. Yea the weather here is warming up a lot, there is almost no snow. BUT the missionary field is still closed :( so no soccer. I might not be able to play soccer til either my last 2 weeks here or til i get to Japan. Well im sad i wont get to be there and help celebrate the BIG 25!! thats amazing, and such an insperastion to a lot of people. As for the CIF game, i know that they are both good, but i think Orange glenn will be better., Make sure we get a highlight tape, so i can watch it ha in 2 years. And i enjoy the dear elder things you send me! The one that you sent with the scripture was amazing and i shred it with my district, there will be more details in the letter. Well how is it at home now? with only 1 child there??, How is Breggie doing with school and what not? Hows everyone doing? Ha dad my DAYS sound like yours now, Im up and ready by about 6:30 Am and end the day at about 11 pm. EVERY DAY. PLease Tell Chase Jack and Garrett to send me some letters and stuff, and let them know things that i send in emails, none of its personal, its for who ever wants to read it.
Thank you so much for all the stuff in the package, but in the letter i rememberd something i forgot and a couple things i will need. so when you get the letter you will know. And if anyone asks you why i havent responded to their email its because i cant, so tell them to write me.
Thank you so much for everything you have done for me through out my whole life to get me where i am. My whole family helped in so many ways which makes it easier and also harder to be here. But i know that this isnt for me. I thougt of a retoricle question when giving my lesson on sunday (i wrote about it in the letter) but the question was dealing with faith, Are we here for the Lord's reasons, or are we here for our own?
I LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH!! I pray for you in every prayer, which is a lot ha. I cant wait to hear from you in what ever way it is! The Lord is true, the Gospel is his AND JESUS IS THE CHRIST!

With lots of Love to all of you

1st Week at MTC

SOOOO first things first, I dont want to hear from you in just emails, its kinda sad that im not getting any letters or anything, thats why you got the address the very first day. And tell Breggie a big thanks for that card she hid in my luggage, that made me really happy! Um also some foot powder to help with stinky feet. And give this email address to Kira and Brock, and tell them to send me stuff as well, not just emails. Well my preparation day is tuesday as you probably know now. On the 11th was the first day of course, I met my companion Elder Huntsman. And our roomates are both Brazilian. The food at the cafiteria really isnt to great. The Branch President of the new missionaries called me to be a District Leader the very first day, and i was kinda freaking out about it. The 12th was the first day of class and was very busy. My teachers talked mostly in japanese so it was useless for me that first day. Our class room is on the fifth floor, which s the highest floor on the tallest building. so i get to walk the stairs up and down over 4 times a day woo hoo. Also i learned how to pray in japanese, but i struggle, A LOT. The 13th, ha friday the 13th, it really was bad luck for me, i was miserable all day because i woke up sick with what i thought was the stomach flu and i threw up a few times and it hasnt bee much fun yet. The 14th was valintines day, I woke up feeling sick this day also, but after my first day at gym i felt a little bit better, the snow was melting yesterday then it snowed literally all day on the 14th. I got really annoyed cause i am the District leader, but no one explained anything to me so i couldnt answer questions at all. The 15th was my first sunday, I had a decent day. I might have to give a talk next sunday though =/ There was a great fireside sunday night that i loved. the hymns i cant get out of my head are #228 and# 97.it just helped relax me and bring the spirit. The 16th I realized i like one teacher better out of the 2 since one makes it more fun and easier to learn.. At gym this day i did the leg press and did all the weight on it (about 400 lbs) so i got bored with that and started doing basketball. So that was just short stuff from my journel. ill try and get pictures to you in a letter when i can, but im only able to take pics on sunday and tuesday. I love you All SOOO much and miss you all. I pray for you everyday and hope you are doing the same. Please write letters to me. i want to hear from you more then once a week. And i dont know if i put this but ill need lots of stamps, both national and international for letters please. And send pictures of the family and what not.Again I LOVE YOU so much and kinda wish i was home.

Love you all, Elder (PR) Coffey
