Girls scout cookies! YUM, ha thin mints, there are some kind of lemon kind and peannut butter kind. THose 3 are my favorites. You telling me about girl scout cookies just made me realize even more that it has been 1 year. last year at this time i got thin mints at the MTC from you. WOW. To fast.
Stupid doctors, cant firgure anything out without messing up. I did get a lot of pictures from kira this week. The baby is very cute. The weather is weird. Last week was rainy and snowy. This week has been windy and sunny. Mostly peope here are really nice. Ha yes ive suprised a lot of people. Ive been asked if i play for manchester united at futsal last week. ha Im not that good am i?
Today has been a great day. I just got out of a temple session and came and emailed. I love going through sessions. The celestial room is always so beautiful and so strong with the spirit and presence of the lord, its amazing!
Well i would love to tell you about the work here but yet again, my area has lost all investigators and nothing is happening. Kinda seeing a trend in my areas. One thing that i noticed, Ive seen baptisms. I havent done any, and they havent been in my area, but people i have met have been baptised. Like Rashawn, and this man named Akira that me and Elder Call met in Mito my 4th transfer. We had to give him to different elders cause he lived in their area, but he got baptised. Ive seen them happen, and thats good enough for me, even if i dont actually do one.
I love you so much! aand miss you lots

Well this past week was an experience! ha Ill start with the people we housed into. Jehova`s Witness... Whoo hoo. ha The lady was really nice and stuff and wanted to ask us questions so she invited us back. We went back and her son ended up being there also. He was kinda a jerk, he wouldnt let his mom talk, he tried to proove us wrong on things we said, BUT luckily for us ive been studying and reading the bible so my comp and i were able to proove how he was wrong, at the and i just bore my testimony about the Book of Mormon and shared John 10:16 & 3 Nephi 15:21. I even got the guy to read one of the versus, which everyone was really shocked and suprised about cause i guess no one has been able to do that in this mission for a while.
Then one of the Bishopric in this ward is American, and he let us watch a really good movie, i recommend it.. Emma Smith my story. Great movie.
And yesterday. It started out raingin really hard, the farther from the apartment the more the stuff falling from the sky turned to snow ha. It went from rain, to slush (litterally, look and felt like a slurpee falling from the sky) then it snowed. This morning everything was covered with snow. Fun stuff ha.
well there are 2 things that can go in the box this time or next if you havent sent it yet. Spray deoderant and Pirates Booty. If not i dont really need it.
We go to different areas to play futsal and football. But basketball is in our area. Ha if im playing with a bunch of missionaries that are being to competitive then, i will make them humble. Kinda prideful, but they werent playing for fun lets just say. But when its PI or investigators i take it easy and make it fun and mess around.
Well all investigators have seemed to stop. Everyone is really busy with tests and stuff, so noone is answering phones or making contact with us, so nothings happening.
It sounds like everyone is staying busy and things are going good for all of you! I hope i get something from kira soon. I havent gotten anything if she has tried sending anything.
Love you all!

Um things going on here. Yes i am Co-Senior, with an elder who has been out 6 weeks longer. This area has a lot of people so its good work here. Im always hungry here though for some reason. Today when we went shopping, i told my comp since we get our MSF this weekend, to actually buy food. We bought like $60 worth of food, but is should last 2 or more weeks. My comp doesnt eat a lot, so i kinda starve sometimes. I still have my stomach like i did at home ha. Not a good thing in japan with the small portions everywhere. It feels great to play sports. I play basketball every thursday night, sometimes futsal on saturday, and last week a couple zones got together and played football. Ive been told i was MVP. ha
Investigators... Well we had one that was supposed to get baptised on the 17th, but his parents didnt give him permission. And when we met with him he said he wasnt sure if he wanted to next month when he turns 20 and becomes an adult. So thats one. Um We have met 2 or 3 Potential investigators the past couple weeks. Oh and there is one investigator that only comes to church and reads the BoM, he doesnt ever make time for us to meet.
This past weekend was stake conference. I saw a lot of people from my second area. MITO. They were all so happy to see me and i was happy and excited to see them. They said they wanted me back in that area which made me feel so good. They were awesome ward members.
Other than that all is good and nothing much else is happening. When i send some memory cards home youll see me in my rain outfit. Yellow jacket and pants, i look like a stripper ha But it works great thank you.
Well i love you all soo much and miss you
Love you

Teaching is going good. We have more lessons here than in my last area. Im feeling good, the language is coming as usual. Yea of course the chargers would do something like that. Its note very far from tokyo, and there are about 100 people that come to chruch. We have 2 or 3 investigators. Things are going good here, gotta go

Hey, well you guys were slow this week. Im sending this kinda early cause we have traveled to play some football today.
Things are going pretty good here. Im enjoying the work. My attitude feels like it completely changed from my last area. Well i know this might be to late for the box if you sent it, but there are a couple cds, if you wouldnt mind it one is Joseph Smith:A Nashiville Tribbute or something like that, and Guitar Hymns by ra\yan tilby.
Well we have been doing pretty good here. We have a new investigator that we met in the 1st week, and a referral that we are hopefully meeting on the 27th. How are things going at home, well there are a line a missionaries waiting. WE want to go play football, so time is limited. Sorry my emails have been kinda short lately. Im doing my best, and loving every minute.
Love you

Uncle Guy sent me an email last week, and i responded, so hopefully i will get somethin soon from him again. Its great being so close to tokyo, there aare people and train rides dont take over 3 hours. I have the opportunity to play soccer every saturday, well futsal. I played last weekend, and having not played for almost a year the next day my body felt like a giant bruise ha. Elder lamb has only been out 6 weeks longer then me. My japanese seems to be more fluent and i learn better when im with american companions, im not sure why that is. Hope all is well,

i have to keep this short, there are 4 missionaries and 1 computer.
Congrats grandma and grandpa! ha thats awsome you have a grand child and a daughter in law on the same day.
Well i got transfered to Abiko. My companion is elder lamb. He is from Pocatella Hills, by san clemente.

This area has people, so i will probably have to get used to it for a while.
Im doing good, having fun. My new years was horrible. My old comp was trunky and didnt want to go out. So he kinda cried himself to sleep and i studied old testament.
Next week will be longer.
Love you so much

So did Uncle Guy ever get the drawing?... Maybe. but i dont know. 9 my time will be good. Cant wait.
about the accident, im fine. I didnt need to use my bell cause i was next to her, but she still swerved so some reason. She tried to kill me. Im not sure how much money is in my account but i had to use like 50$-60$. Only the long johns, black botom and white top, they will help keep me warm when biking around.
Well when is Kira supposed to have her baby then? i was hoping she had it so we would have a better chance to all talk on thursday (for you friday for me). I did get the challk drawing pictures. That was amazing. Only sad thing is i can usually only draw what i look at, if i dont have a picture to look at i cant draw. MOST of the time. There are exceptions like the one i sent you.
Im not down about not having investigators. Ive realized something more important than anything that we as missionaries need to help people do.... Change. as long as im helping people do that im happy.
Plus i was thinking, each missionary has a purpose. Ive realized a couple things that i have been able to do... Help rashawn, help my companions, and teach in some district meetings. Those things i have realized ive been the most affective at. These my be my purpose, to help the people i know help others better. Maybe ha.
Oh well, im going to try and make cookies for people today we will see how that turns out. Cant wait to talk to you !!!!
Love you!

well i hope you all have stuff figured out for the phone call. only this week and next.
Thats good that everyone is doing well. Yes the weather is getting colder. Its bright and sunny and ha i have a neck warmer, the huge black jacket, long sleeves, beanie gloves. Then sometimes a scarf and my sweater on. Ive nevee been cold like this.
Well last week i had to use my birthday money, but not on food. I almost got hit by an old lady ON A BICYCLE! they shouldnt be aloud to drive or ride bikes. I was starting to pass her after my comp, and i cant see in front of my comp. and as im passing the old lady swerves , so i try getting out of the way (the only way i can go), right into about a 2 foot high curb (without rounded edges). Well that put about 3 holes in my tire and bent my rim, so the money fixed my bike ha. Old People. they need special buses or to walk ha.
Well then thursday last week, we got invited to help with a funeral. Well the style here is weird, and i hope it was a once in a lifetime experience. They burned the body, then we had to wait for it to finish, then (this is the worst part) USED CHOPSTICKS TO PUT THE BONES IN A BOX... what the FREAK!
Well pretty much only the church members celebrate any holidays, that we do in america. There are some houses with lights, but thats about it. But next week, we have like 3 parties to go to. Birthday party, then the next day ward christmas party, then the next day missonary party, then the next i get to talk with you and then that night elders from my zone are going to go to different cities and do some caroling. So it will be great next week
Well we are pretty much back to 0 on investigators and people. so not much is happening.
Ill keep you updated. Oh and our transfer calls come on the 2nd of january so on the 5th maybe i could be in a different area.
Love you and hope all is well

Well for you to call me, i have the details. For me it will be christmas morning and all of you christmas eve i think. The 25th HERE IN JAPAN at 8 or 9 am, so sometime at night on the 24th for you i think.

This weekend we had stake conference. Elder Chey, the Korean guy that spoke at conference about " I love loud boys", came and he is a way good speaker. I really enjoyed it.
Not much is going on here, im trying not to get trunky this month, but knowing kira will pop soon and getting brocks wedding invitation and knowing he will get married soon makes it kinda tough. Plus these are all the first times being gone for these family holidays.
Simon Dewey is a church artist. He has a lot of really great pictures. All the ones he has done that i have seen have Christ in them. But just how real the look to me and the colors and how well he can get emotion into the picture makes me appreciate things more. He has one i remember called consider the lilies, and i think its Christ with some children sitting in front of the lilies. Im not to good at explainging it sorry. I think youll be able to find some of his stuff at Deseret Books.
Im good on toothpaste i think and deoderant, if you send anymore, i thnk its called old spice pro strength with talc. Aunt Carol sent some in a package, it works wonders ha. Other than that ill be happy with anything.
Well today we are planning on watching some of the church dvds that we have, Finding faith in christ, The testaments, and the mission home gave us Joseph Smiths 200th christmas its motab doing christmas with people playing music singing and dancing, so we were intrested in watching that.
Well i dont remember if i told you about the baker and his family, and how we met the daughter at service and they know the missionaries and stuff. But sunday night we went there, i was on splits with the zone leaders. We wanted to do something to show why were are doing what we do. So since they have seen The restoration movie, we decided Finding Faith in Christ would be the best thing. Before the movie, my ZL dont think about what you see, focus on your feelings. Then we showed the movie and we were going to share a faith scripture. But i had a thought come to mind to share what faith ISNT instead of what faith IS. That was a gift from the spirit. I got that thought and knew exactly what scrips to use Alma 32: 17-18. After the movie, the father just said wow (except in japanese) and after the scripture he said something to the lines of i understand. Then the both of us gave a testimony and left. We didnt ask questions, except the commitment to think about that feeling they had during the movie. We left those of that family that was there feeling something strong, really strong.
Other than that not much to tell, sorry
Love ya, tell kira not to explode til after she talks to me on the phone
for this Christmas season, just remember something. (flip the m)--------> Christwas..... Christmas
LOVE YOU

for the intrument, not a flutaphone ha please those are horrible. But i do have a couple more things for the box maybe, Some of MY ties that should stll be in my closet if they havent been moved. Some Simon Dewey paintings, if you can get small ones on little cads or something.
Also if you can snd me jakes email and mission home address please.
Well sorry this is a day late. I was at the temple litterally all day yesterday. We had a member that wanted us to help do their names. So we took a 3 hour drive, did an endowment session and did almost 2 hours of initiatories for their names they had. Then they took us to dinner and a 3 hour drive home.
Staying in an area isnt a change for me, i was in mito for 3 transfers. keeping a comp is new ha. Ill tell you if anything different happens with the investigator. so far nothing yet. Who have you shared the drawing with? Ive go more copies that i was going to send people, but the havent been replying to me so i think it would be a waste.
Ill probably be letting you know next week or so about christmas call.
Glad things are going good with everyone

Yes, i got my birthday box, the saturday after my bday. It wa all wonderful thank you! Yea, that iimage kinda hit me when i read those scriptures on the back of the drawing, so i did it, then bore a little testimony hoping it will help him and uncle rick.
I did stay, with the same comp finally. im fine with staying, but i will definatly need some warm stuff Maybe thermal tops and bottoms. White tops and black bottoms if possible. Im wearing my nike warm up pants under my church pants. Its way colder here than utah and it hasnt snowed.... yet.
It feels weird being 20. Well it all feels the same, but i mean it wasnt very long ago i was like i cant wait to not be a teen any more ha than bam im not. oh well.
Yes the boy still sings and the man still comes. We havent been able to set appointments with the investigator yet, he says he is always busy with work. But his wife who is a recent convert keeps telling us he is trying to make time, but cant.
So what do you guys think of that drawing? Oh yea, and last week i told you about the instruments, do you have any ideas of something small and easy to learn? i can see if i can get something here.
Well thats about all thats going on right now, i plan to sleep all day after food shoping because im way tired.
Love you!

November 16, 2009

Well first i would like to say this saturday is transfer calls. Another 6 weeks gone. And tomorrow here in Japan is the 18th so im not 20 yet ha. Well if you can get some extra things in the next box that would be great. Pro Srength Old Spice With talc,Fatty sharpie and ultra fine sharpies, this one i dont need but the mission pres said it would be a good idea to learn some kind of easy instrument and to buy one here cheap or get one sent, so we can participate in ward activities more. So if you have any ideas of easy instuments to learn and cheap ones let me know or send something with stuff on how to learn it please.
Well i hope Breggie made it, she seems like she has improved alot from what i have heard. Dad is just old, put him in a home ha just kidding.
The investigator has been busy so we havent met with him to teach more since the last lesson. But he comes to church so thats good. He still has the date set for the 22 but its not gunna happen since we cant meet as often as we would like. HA yea companions, probably the most interesting part of the mission, ill just leave it at that. I havent been in a potugese ward. All wards here are either japanese or english depending on what area you are in. This ward might as well be portugese though since about half the members are from brazil.
Well the member that had me make the pinata, aske me to make like a breast plate armor thing like in one of the pictures for captain moroni. WHAT THE FREAK!?! ha he gave me cardboard and paint andd said ill be back in about 30 minutes. I made it, but i cant paint worth junk so he did that, it turned out good.
yea our ward mission leader in this ward is brazilian so our ward mission council or what ever it is, is all in portugese, so im left out of the loop a lot here, I kinda want to get transfered to someplace i can help more. and be involved with things more.
One good thing, well actually 2, that i think are the best things that have happened on my mission so far. We have been working with 2 LA. One a 19 yr old boy, who stopped reading and coming to church. The other an older man. The boy came to church like 3 weeks ago, and i have to sit with him anytime he comes, but i talked to him when we sang i held the hymn book in front of both of us but he wouldnt sing. For 2 or 3 weeks he would come in street clothes and do the same, but this last sunday he came in a suit, he took the hymn book from my hands and started singing, it was great. Then the older man, he hasnt been to church in at least a month, and we have been going once a week and sharing messages, and this last sunday he came. NOW i know what Jesus said about leaving the 90 and 9 and looking for the 1. And when you find the one you come back rejoicing.
Thats about all though,
Love you so much!

I dont think i was able to go to many of Kiras games at grosmont, cause of soccer, So i dont really remember.
Not much new is happening. The people ha, what people? We are doing our best to talk and get things done. This past week we were able to pass out about 4 or 5 BoM so that was good. The Language is kinda rough right now. It feel like when im with an american comp i do great and feel great about the language, cause they struggle like me ha. Kinda mean but true. But with my comp now, since he is part japanese and lived here for 4 years before the mission, just makes it seem like i dont improve and since he can talk faster and better its hard for me to stay up with the conversation and talk sometimes. The Bap date is still set, but it might have to move since we can only meet with the man saturday and sundays and he cant do it every weekend because he works.
For the next box or whenever you send something ,can you send black soccer socks as well please. it gets cold here and my calves have stretched out my church socks.
I said i was going to mail a drawing i did, last week BUT i never had a chance to. So hopefully today or tomorrow i will ba able to. Well i emailed you first, and i need to email breggie from last week. I havent fully recovered from getting sick, so im planning on sleeping a lot today.
Hope all is well, Love ya

Im not sure exactly why my comp gets down on himself. One reason maybe is that he is missing home bad, and he doesnt hesitate to tell people. For the Pinata, i made a pumpkin and a weird one that didnt turn out so i drew halloween stuff on it.
No halloween isnt celebrated here like in the States. There was mabye one small festival that i saw. No kids roaming the streets for candy.
There is no one in the town because its so country. The people that do live here know who we are and those that dont are gone from the city all day. We have been everywhere, in almost every town that we can get to to find people. I DO HAVE GOOD NEWS THOUGH. There is a brazilian couple, the wife is a recent convert, and the husband goes to church all the time. Well we made an appointment with the husband to teach him. Since it was in portugese, my comp wanted me to teach most of the lesson and he translate. I thought that was ridiculous, but i agreed. I prayed onn what to do, and after my prayer i told my comp we can get a bap date out of this lesson. THEN BAMM! Lesson 1, comp gave 1st vision i explained the rest and shared 2Nephi 22:2 with what my comp says is a powerful testimony. His date is for the 22nd. The last day of the transfer! First Bap date of the mission
Yea, we arent aloud to do things like that in Japan, the only thing we can do in front of shops or the train stations is pass out english class flyers.
You wanna hear a funny story. Friday was an all mission conference, and we HAD to get flew shots. Well sunday morning i woke up sick. Monday morning, stil sick. Went to a pharmacist to get medicine, and he told us that the shot made me sick. oh well. Still kinda sick but cant let that stop things.
Im goint to be sending a drawing home that i did. Ill send 2 copies. I want Dad to take one to Uncle Guy, Ill probably write a letter to go with it
K well i only got 30 minutes today since we went to the temple yesterday with the ward, so gotta go
LOVE YOU

October 26, 2009

Well i did think of a birthday present... Bible and Triple as small as they come please. My big quad is such a problem to carry when i need english sciptures. Yea i am kinda dissapointed about transferrs, no there is not more to do here. There is no people so it makes things so much harder then the last area.
Is going well with the new companion. Not very talkative and always gets down on himself if noone stops to talk to us, so i try and be funny and make him laugh. The weather is way crazy. Sunday was cold, yesterday frezzing wind and rain and today hot and sunny. BUT winter is coming, its getting clder and colder.
Yes Kiryu is surrounded by mountains, which makes it cold. I have seen all those resturants. Guess which is the only one i can afford as a missionary. MCDONALDS! gross, well he mac here isnt as bad as american mac. But for a meal at KFC is like $10 plus, then 2 scoops at 31 is at least $6. So yea ha. This area is no so good with investigators right now. Maybe we have 2 i think. My companion is from a town south of Seo Paulo the capital, dunno how to spell it. I live y 3 or 4 stations, so you cant find me here ha.
Well our Pinata experiment was a success. the kids couldnt break them so they had me get up and smash it open ha. But wow that was ridiculous, never thought id be doing a pinaa on the mission.
Well here is a good line of scrips i found during study alma 5:44-47

10/19/09

Well, i got the email in a letter last week ha thanks. Sorry i didnt have a chance to email last week, it was transfers so monday was a pday and i was on a train all day.
So yep i got transfered, i would love to tell you about the PIs but i dont know. MITO GOT WHITEWASHED! I got transfered up to Kiryu. So far ive been going along the outer ring of the mission. My companion is Elder Tsuchira ( 5th transfer, 5th comp) He is Brazilian and part japanese. This area has a large population of brazilian people so im homing to play more soccer here. But It was fun on sunday, i went to Gospel Principles in Portugese. I had my translater, but those people are amazing and so strong in spirit, it was WOW! ha.
well i really have no idea for birthday presents. BUT these little goodies can be a birhday present. Ive eaten everything you have sent already ha, So maybe more cearel and treats and stuff ha. OH yea, if you can find like a mini magnetic chess set or some kind of small chess set, that would be great. Me and my comp are both wanting to play but japanese chess is so different and has so many weird rules. BUT i will be happy with anyting!
WEll a cool thinng tha happened in this area already.. since there is literally no one in this town at certain times of the day, all we can do is house. NOT FUN. so i suggested we go try finding a place and sign up for service. Well after filling out forms we were taken to a school type place that was in the same building. We are helping watch and teach and take care of Handicapped children for highschool age to elementary school age. Yesterday we had planed to house but they asked us to help so we did. IT was a lot of fun. Even with problems they were so happy and i didnt see one kid sad or mad about anything. Also while there one of the ladies that worked there asked if we were mormon. We were kinda shocked she knew and said yes. She said her family used to mee with them about 10 yrs ago. She is 23 and livs with her parents. She gave us her number, so i caled last night and we now have an appontment with that family tonight!
Im excited!
Ok well thats really all thats happening. I gotta get off though, Me and my comp need to try and make a pinata for the halloween party. WE HAVE NO CLUE HOW ha
2 Nephi 22:2 Alma 5:44-46( I dont remember the verse numbers, its about testimony)
Love you
Elder Coffey

P.S. i did get to see conference and loved it. Elder Hollands talk about the BoM was amazing. Some of the things he said were how i have been feeling about it, it was crazy to know that his testimony and mine about the Book of Mormon had similar things.

9/2/09

Yea that tumor was gross. But im glad she is doing better.
Ive got kinda a bad headache and cant really focus or think of what to say, so this might be short sorry.
Well we are doing good here. WE have met some new potential investigators. The ones we have still havent hhad a chance to meet with us, so i dont know what we will do with that. But we are trying to spread our days out doing different things so we dont get bored and so we can build better relationships with people.
The other day we had a praying mantis on our door. We caught it and are feeding it cock roaches that get stuck in our sticky traps. We have 2 catapillars and a mantis ha. We get bored here.
The weather is getting cooler here for the most part, winter is coming.
OK well i need to go get some medicine and take a nap so i wont be out of missionary work tomorrow.
Sorry this is short.
I LOVE YOU

9/22/09

Thank you for letting me know all of this, wow there is a lot happening, i wish i could be there to help.
Things here havent been the best either. Im doing great and all, and having a blast with Elder Call, BUT non of our investigators are making the time to meet with us. OUt of these past 3 or 4 weeks we have had 0 lessons with investigators. Its horrible. but we have meet a couple of new people who will hopefully meet more and seem more interested. We will see.
Well the glow in the dark stuff was in the shape of music notes, i was cutting them into smaller shapes to look more like stars, my finger got to close and i snipped a chunk off the tip. It bled for like a day and a half, wasnt to bad. i have pictures so you will see when i send this memory card home. But it was worth it, all 4 walls and the ceiling are covered. It helps me fall asleep fast. Its like im out camping i love it, and miss the real thing.
Yesterday we had a member give us some corn, when we were husking it to eat it we found a catapiller. We made a little cage for it and feed it and named it うんち くん which like little poop i think. Ive never seen a bug poop so much, but we want to see what it turns into. I am also making giant origami when i have time, its really fun and cool looking, ill take pics for ya. cant wait to show you how to make them.
Cant wait for the mountain man pics, i hope the send some soon. Well im sorry all that is going on and thigns are getting rough. I know that when satan sees that things are going good, he picks things that will brings us down fast. For you it seems like family things, for me its investigators not meeting with us. But i found this scrip the otherday which i like a lot 2 Nephi 22:2. Its great
By the way i have finally finished the new testament. I have started the book of mormon over again and am looking for certain things when i read, and i will probably start the old testament soon.
Some cool news. I was planning on writing sister glenn a letter the other day, because my comp came out the transfer before her and had her address. Well the next day, i got a letter from a girl that was in my district at the mtc and she is companions with sister glenn now, i sent them a letter and hope to hear from them soon, but i thought that was awsome.
I love you and miss you all so much and pray for you daily!
LOVE YOU

PS. This area is rediculous, we have to travel for zone conference and district meeting each week, so i had to get some personal money out to help us travel, and when i say us i mean me and the comp. His card expired and his parents havent sent him the new one yet, so he had no money and we couldnt miss zone conference. So thats where a lot of the money has gone. Once im out of country areas i dont think i will pull out of personal as much. Sorry, im really tring not to spend it
